The curbside westbound lane of Algonquin Boulevard remains closed next to the 101 Mall, following overnight repair work on a manhole.
The city’s environmental services manager, Scott Tam, says the asphalt and concrete around it were falling apart..
“If hit properly by traffic, it would pop off the manhole id and cause an issue,” he states. “Once it started rattling, it was crumbling around the structure and we just wanted to basically fix it, so make it safe again for that lane.”
“So now the lane will be closed off to allow the concrete and the asphalt to cure,” he adds, “just to solidify it that much more and give it an opportunity for it to really get set in place.”
Tam hopes to reopen the lane early tomorrow morning.
