Time to get growing heading towards the Timmins Fall Fair in September

Even while there’s still snow on the ground, it’s time to start thinking about the Timmins Fall Fair grower program.

It’s aimed at kids, but the entire family can participate in raising animals in time for the fall fair in September.

Erin Rathbone is vice-president of the Porcupine District Agricultural Society and coordinates the education program.  She says it’s expanding to turkeys and rabbits this year – rabbits to allow participation from in-town, and not only from property zoned rural.

“We have pigs, the lambs, we’ve got the chickens, which are a set of ten and then the turkeys are a set of six and then the rabbits.”

Whatever species you choose will be supplied.  The committee will check in during the summe, and then you get to keep the animals.

Rathbone says the time to get involved is now.

“The spots are limited, but we still have availability for all of the animals.

You can register via the Timmins Fall Fair Facebook page.
