Last reeve of Mountjoy Twp. dies

The man who was the final reeve of Mountjoy Township and its first city councillor after amalgamation has died.

Fern Tremblay was 90.

Current Ward 1 Councillor Rock Whissell says Tremblay’s daughter set up a one-on-one meeting for him, about six months after Whissell was elected in 2018.

“We had a good conversation for almost a good hour and his knowledge and the experience, it was all new to me for being a councillor,” remarks Whissell, “so all the knowledge that he was able to share with me was really something positive.”

Whissell adds that he’s following in Tremblay’s footsteps.

“Unfortunately, he ran for mayor a few times but wasn’t successful, but I think it’s the courage to put your name out there and try to make a difference to the community is a role model that I’ve been following for the last three years.”

St. Dominique Church on Norman St. in Mountjoy is where Fern Tremblay’s funeral will be on Saturday at 10:30 am.
