The only female hockey team in the region is heading to the States for a tournament. 140 teams will be at the showcase next week, along with the Midget A Timmins Falcons. Head Coach Lindsay Leonard says teams are coming from all Canada and the States competing at the tournament, and scouts will be there to see the talent.

“They’ll come around and pick up whichever girl they think would be good enough to play,” explains Leonard. “They have quite an extensive female program down South, so often our girls will leave and go play there.”

That could mean using hockey to get into college or university, whether it be in the States or Canada. Or, Leonard says, it could just mean playing hockey beyond the Midget level.
