Rolly, Canada’s biggest snowman, is awaiting your visit on Carrigan Rd.

UPDATE MARCH 2: Michel Campeau tells My Timmins Now Dot Com that the increasingly warmer afternoon sunshine is having an effect on Rolly.  He’s already two feet shorter. Campeau suggests that with milder weather on the way and if you still want to get your photo taken with him, this weekend might be the time.  Don’t forget to bring a donation to your local food bank.

When life hands you a whole lot of snow, you make a giant snowman. Michel Campeau out on Carrigan Rd. and his family have been back at it this winter.

“We named the snowman Rolly, in honour of my Dad,” says Michel. “He’s battling cancer right now.”

Campeau claims that Rolly is the biggest snowman in Canada, at 45 ft. high – the highest he’s ever made a snowman.

“We pushed some snow with the snowblower at the beginning and after that, it was all by push scoops, about 80 push scoops a day,” he explains.

Construction began November 30th and wrapped up on Valentine’s Day.

When you’re that tall, it’s probably no surprise that you weigh about 165 tons. That’s the estimate of how much snow went into creating Rolly.

You’re welcome to visit and take photos.  Carrigan Rd. is east of the Met Site on Hwy. 101. Campeau says pull into the driveway, so you’re not blocking the road. All you’re asked to bring is cash or food

“We are collecting for the local food banks, just to help our economy and everything. They always need food or donations.”

Make sure you tell the Campeaus which community you live in, and your donation will go to your local food bank.
