After 62 years of service, the equipment that pumps sewage underground from Schumacher to the treatment plant on Airport Road is being modernized. City council approved the $3-million expenditure at Tuesday night’s meeting.
Public Utilities Maintenance and Project Manager Yvan Deslauriers reported that the current McIntyre Pumping Station is antiquated. The project will increase efficiency and save money.
Delauriers assured council that a temporary pumping station will handle the sewage during construction, anticipated to last between April and November.
