TCPA looks forward to lockdown to end, allowing events on Hollinger skate path

Combine upcoming plans with one or two that had to be delayed, and the Timmins Community Park Association is anxious for the current COVID-19 lockdown to be lifted.

Brenda Torresan is secretary of the volunteer group.  She says it’s hoping to reschedule a 30th anniversary celebration for the Porcupine Minor Hockey Initiation Program in the coming weeks.

And at the Hollinger Park skate path, it’s planning “Good Health February”.

“You go to the skate path and you do your laps and you will log them into a special app,” she explains, and at the end of February, we’ll tally everybody’s laps and there will be random draws for gifts.”

Also in February, “Happy Day Saturdays”. All six of the sleighs will be on the skate path from noon until 4:00pm, for skaters and non-skaters alike to enjoy being pushed around the path.

Among other features at the skate path, TCPA is partnering with Kin Canada for the National Day of Kindness, on Family Day Weekend.

And Torresan says other events are in the works.

“We have plans for boxcar racing on our sliding hill, which we still need to use, and hopefully the public will come and use that, too.”

The idea is to design and decorate your own toboggan out of a cardboard box.

Also possible is an observance of the Winter Olympics.  Torresan says TCPA is also looking forward to occupancy limits for its trailer to be removed, allowing people to use it to warm up and change between boots and skates.
