Snowmobiles cause damage to cross-country ski trails near Iroquois Falls

There has been a hiccup in the peaceful coexistence between snowmobilers and cross-country skiers on the trails outside Iroquois Falls.

Bob Miller is president of the Iroquois Falls Cross-Country Ski Club. He says that over the weekend, sledders damaged the ski trails… which consist of two tracks.

“One is the classic track, where those two tracks are parallel to each other,” he illustrates in words, “and the other half of the trail, which is somewhat wider, is groomed flat for skate skiing.”

“The front skis of the sleds put deep grooves in that part of the trail,” Miller continues, “and when you’re skate skiing, you get your own ski caught in that groove and you can take a terrible tumble.”

Miller says apart from that obvious danger, repairing the trail can take a couple passes or more of the groomer.
