Chamber presses government for proof that curtailing business curtails COVID-19

On behalf of its members, the Timmins Chamber of Commerce is challenging the province to “show us the proof” about the effectiveness of lockdowns. President Rob Knox says business owners are frustrated with the lack of a link between running their operations, and the spread of COVID-19.

“Show us the correlation between the stats that the public health units are generating and show us that correlation to our business,” he states.

This latest lockdown will particularly hit restaurants and gyms hard.  Knox adds that you would expect the type of financial compensation from previous lockdowns to be forthcoming.

“And it just seems as though the sudden shutdown or change in conditions is going to really impact local businesses.”

Knox is also frustrated with the availability of PCR testing for the virus being seriously scaled back, while its intended replacement, rapid antigen tests, are not available in any quantity.
