The South Porcupine OPP and the Groundhog Lake Cottagers Association are teaming up. The two groups have created a Cottage Watch program for the area. They’re going to make sure the area stays safe by reporting anything suspicious.
“Everyone who helps report something suspicious does their part in the fight against crime,” says Staff Sergeant Dan Foy. “We want this cottage season to be a safe and happy one for our cottage community.”
The cottagers, cottagers’ road or lake assocaitions, and local OPP are all part of the program. Cottage Watch President John Wayne Rogers spearheaded the initiative. Police have also sent out safety tips to keep your own cottage safe this season.
· Secure your cottage windows and doors, close window curtains or blinds and put up shutters to protect interior from marauders (animals and humans).
· Record Operation Identification property marking/serial numbers of items left behind. Always keep hard copies of this information in case electronic versions are misplaced.
· Identify who your cottage property key holder is for alarms, thefts, weather damage or animal problems and know their contact numbers.
