Christmas tree lighting ceremony set for Saturday night at Hollinger Park

Still not quite in the Christmas spirit after Saturday’s Santa Claus Parade?  Maybe the community Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Hollinger Park this Saturday night will do the trick.

City Hall’s communications coordinator, Amanda Dyer, says it’s at 6:00pm.  And the tree has more lights than ever.

“So about 4,000 twinkling lights,” she states. “We’re going to do a countdown to kick it off.  And we’ve also got a performance of holiday music from the Timmins Symphony Choir.”

More organizations are involved this year. Dyer says Tourism Timmins is onboard.  Also part of it is the Timmins Community Park Association, which operates the skateway and other winter activities in the park.

“I think it’s important that we all come together and really celebrate together the holiday season,” Dyer remarks. “and emphasize how great that park is and that area is and how it can be used in the winter.”

Free hot chocolate will be available. There’s no charge to participate, however non-perishable food will be accepted for the Timmins and South Porcupine Food Banks.
