Timmins to be passenger rail terminus?

UPDATE: Timmins Mayor George Pirie confirms this.  More later.

It’s a pretty safe bet that no one saw this train’s headlight coming. In a Facebook post Thursday afternoon, provincial transportation minister Caroline Mulroney announced that Timmins will be the terminus, when passenger rail service returns to the region.

There was no apparent news release, and no more details in the minister’s post.

Among the questions is how Timmins can be a terminal, when it doesn’t have any rails west of the Kidd Metallurgical Site.

Our newsroom has reached out to the ministry for clarification.
