Chamber president proposes lower tax rate for small local businesses

Small business is one of the key items discussed this week by Timmins Chamber of Commerce president Rob Knox, as he presented the Chamber’s wish list for the upcoming budget to city council.

Knox urged council to establish a lower tax class for small businesses “…to provide additional property tax tools that would provide target tax relief to small businesses and increase business competitiveness.”

“Noting that many brick-and-mortar-based businesses likely rent their spaces,” he continued, “it’s assumed and should be heavily implied that the savings provided to the commercial landlords should also translate to the commercial renters.”

Knox also promoted operating the airport through an airport authority set-up; and combining planning with economic development.
