Timmins Police to teens: Tik-Tok Challenge could have long-lasting repercussions

The challenge from Timmins Police to teenagers in the city is to not get involved with the Tik-Tok Challenge.

The world wide web phenomenon entices kids to perform certain acts that are often criminal, damaging school property or hurting someone.

Police communications coordinator Marc Depatie points out that a criminal record can complicate future employment and travel, and sully your reputation.

“The notoriety that you get might be cool in the moment, but it’ll be fleeting and only temporary,” he remarks, “so there’s no need to pursue that type of attention.”

All of the city’s high school principals have complained about the challenge, and vandalism to school washrooms.

“Obviously, this challenge posted on Tik Tok has gained some unsavoury attention,, some momentum locally,” Depatie notes, “so we’re hopeful to halt this in its tracks the best we can.”
