Virtual component of Doors Open Timmins brings us inside fascinating places

Timmins history comes alive this coming weekend, with the 2021 version of Doors Open Timmins. Museum director-curator says some buildings will be open, but a lot of it will be virtual.

She says it features buildings, historic and natural sites and cultural properties that make us who we are.

One highlight is the virtual visit inside the concrete Hollinger Mine headframe.

“We have been allowed in, so there’s a video done of the inside and what the inside of that headframe looks like,” she says in way of a preview. “I think people will enjoy that.”

And on offer is the shrine to local sports, the McIntyre Community Building.

“Lacey Rigg did a fantastic video of the entire building,” says Bachmann,  so you get to go into things like what used to be the mirrored skating room., which was a special room for young skaters to go and practice.”

Doors Open Timmins runs Saturday and Sunday.  The full list of sites is on the museum’s website.
