City officials have declared a state of emergency to access additional resources and provincial aid.

Fire Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator Tom Laughren says the local team acted fast to help, and the state of emergency will allow them to coordinate efforts to respond to the evacuees. It’s not known how long the group will stay in Timmins, but more evacuees could be on the way as the situation develops.
