Youth In Policing Ambassadors begin community service projects

Four students have joined Timmins Police as its Youth in Policing Ambassadors this summer. Corporate Communications Coordinator Marc Depatie says the students will be counted on to do a lot of the leg work of community service. He adds that one of the projects will be a reminder to residents about fixing their house numbers.

“The residents left their house numbering to fall into a state of disrepair where it is no longer distinguishable from the road side,” he said. “Well these youth ambassadors will convey a friendly competitive message to those persons so they can get their house in order as it were.”

Depatie says the ambassador program is also a great recruitment tool to see what students may want to purse policing as a career.

“As well we get to see the work ethic that an individual possesses at a young age,” he said. “We should keep that person in mind for future employment since they displayed such as stead -fast devotion to the community and apply themselves in a police manor.”

Depatie says it’s become a daunting task to recruit people because with the economy on an upswing in the area, Timmins Police is hopeful to offer career options that are as competitive as those in other areas like mining and forestry.
