Francophone 400

Francophone’s in Timmins are going to be honoured throughout 2015. This year marks the 400th anniversary of Francophone’s in Ontario. Tourism Timmins and the Venture Center have joined up to create a bunch of local events. Guy Lamarche says their project will honour the community, and the people in it.

“Residents of all backgrounds will be able to participate in many celebratory events,” says Lamarche. “And, learn more about the Francophone culture that so profoundly influenced their city.”

Lamarche says they have launched a contest for the community to submit profile’s of key Francophone members throughout history. The winners have been picked, and will be showcased throughout a 10 week period in Les Voyageur newspaper. There is also going to be a time capsule, and celebrations at Canada Day at Kayak Fest.

Check out the Francophone 400 Facebook Page for all of the events and details.
