PHU expands vaccine availability

MONDAY NIGHT ADDITION: The Porcupine Health Unit says more than half of all adults in its territory have been vaccinated against COVID-19 at least once. Medical officer of health Dr. Lianne Catton says that’s on par – and in some cases, ahead of other health units.

Patients with cancer and other at-risk conditions are now eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine.  Here is the list of medical conditions that make you eligible.

  • Immune deficiencies and autoimmune disorders
  • Stroke and cerebrovascular disease
  • Dementia
  • Diabetes
  • Liver disease
  • All other cancers
  • Respiratory diseases, such as asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, pleurisy
  • Spleen problems, such as asplenia
  • Heart disease
  • Hypertension with end organ damage
  • Diagnosed mental disorder
  • Substance use disorders
  • Sickle cell disease
  • Thalassemia
  • Immunocompromising health conditions
  • Other disabilities requiring direct support care in the community

 

The Porcupine Health Unit says you’ll get either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, and you must make an appointment.
