Algonquin Blvd. shuts down on Monday

The day we’ve been anticipating with some dread in Timmins arrives on Monday.

Public works manager Ken Krcel says the connecting link project on Algonquin Blvd. will finally shut down the road, from Mattagami Blvd. to Thériault Blvd.

“I’m not sure what time during the day that will happen,” Krcel tells My Timmins Now Dot Com.  “They have some work to do to get that detour ready, but by the end of the day on Monday, Algonquin will be closed to through traffic.”

Mattagami Blvd. will reroute traffic both ways between Wilson Ave. and the bridge.

Krcel says the Mattagami bridge will, however, remain open.

“Traffic will be reduced on the bridge to a lane in each direction. Traffic will be diverted down Mattagami Blvd. to Wilson and back out to Cameron.”

The same goes in the other direction.

Temporary traffic lights at Wilson and Cameron will be activated on Monday.  And a couple Timmins Transit bus stops will be closed.

  • 1711 – Morandin Dry Cleaners on routes 37 and 6
  • 1697 – Speedy Auto Glass and Participark on routes 38 and 7

Krcel advises adding 15 minutes to a trip on off-peak hours, and 30 minutes on peak hours, or find an alternate route, which will also likely be busier than usual.
