Heels of Hope a success

The men of Timmins put on their best high heels, waxed their legs, and ran down Third all for a good cause. Heels of Hope was this weekend, which is a cancer society effort to raise money for men’s cancer research. Manager of the Canadian Cancer Society office in Timmins, Dave McLaughlin, says the event was put on by their Youth Troup.

“They do a lot of advocacy for us,” says McLaughlin. “With things like Big Tobacco Lies, Bill 45 which just got passed this last week, they had a great hand in success with that locally; they were campaigning, lobbying, for years for us.”

He says they do all that, and create events like Heels of Hope. McLaughlin says the challenge of a non-profit is to come with up an idea that is unique enough to draw people out to raise funds.

But, McLaughin says the Youth Troup did just that, and they have reached their goal of$2, 000.
