PHU spacing out vaccine doses by up to four months: MOH explains why

The medical officer of health for our region says vaccination clinics will continue to follow the advice of both senior levels of government, to give the second dose within four months.

Dr. Lianne Catton of the Porcupine Health Unit says that allows a maximum number of people to get their first dose.

“Which means that we will reduce the number of infections, we will reduce symptomatic disease, we will reduce severity of disease, we will reduce ICE hospitalizations and admissions to hospital overall,” she says, “which really in the end adds increased protection for all of us and really reduces the risk for everyone if we get more vaccines into more arms in a quicker fashion.

As of the end of Monday, 12,790 people in the region had received a first dose.  Another 1,014 have had both.
