Reports differ on whether a car driver tried to stop and prevent colliding with a train

Damage to a Toyota Venza is extensive if it’s not a total write-off, from being hit by a 39-car freight train in Connaught just before noon today.

The 51-year-old woman driving the car was alone at the time.  She says she tried to stop.  Timmins Police say the train engineer disagrees, adding that he was sounding the locomotive’s horn.

The driver was conscious when the ambulance took her to Timmins and District Hospital.

City police are investigating.
