Add another COVID-19 to PHU territory; variant testing comes back negative

The Porcupine Health Unit region now has 307 COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic.  It reported one new case on Sunday.

It says it’s in the Hearst-Hornepayne area, and part of an institutional outbreak.

PHU doesn’t make the direct connection, but it also announced yesterday an outbreak at Foyer des Pionniers.  It’s the long-term care wing of Notre Dame Hospital in Hearst. In such a setting, one case is considered an outbreak.

At the same time, the health unit says that testing on the suspected coronavirus variant at Extendicare Kapuskasing has come back negative.
