The MNR has sent out a reminder to follow all guidelines when burning brush. Four new forest fires were started over the weekend, prompting the reminder. There is a moderate hazard in Timmins. The fires were sparked in Chapleau, Sudbury, and Sault Ste Marie.
“Sudbury 14 and 15 are currently under control; Sault Ste. Marie 6 is under control at 2 hectares; and Chapleau 1 has since been declared out,” says the Ministry of Natural Resources in a press release.
The MNR says you are responsible for safe fire management.
“People are reminded that under the Ontario Forest Fires Prevention Act they are responsible for safe outdoor fire management and must follow guidelines for burning brush and grass. Campfires are to be tended at all times and put out before leaving.”
