Webinar aimed at cholesterol and heart disease coming up this month

Your chance to learn more about high cholesterol and heart disease comes up later this month, as part of a study focusing partly on our region.

Researchers from a group funded by the Ontario health ministry and the Canadian Institute for Health Research are staging a free webinar on Zoom on Friday, February 26th at noon.

It’s called “CHOICES”, for Community Heart Outcomes Improvement and Cholesterol Education Study”.

Research project manager Laura Ferreira-Legere says the COVID-19 pandemic could be heightening your risk of heart disease, because you’re staying home more and not getting as much exercise.

“And we’ll have lots of information on heart health, getting your cholesterol checked, understanding your risks of heart disease and really how to stick to a plan with the unique caveats of COVID-19 right now,” she says.

Ferreiro-Legere adds that all you need is an open mind and an interest in heart health.

“There will be an interactive component. We’ll have a little bit of trivia that people can use their computer to participate in. But all the information will be provided after the webinar.”

That webinar is at noon on the 26th.  Prizes of $150.00 grocery cards are up for grabs.

More information and how to register can be found here or here.
