COVID-19 detected at Extendicare Kapuskasing

UPDATE AT 3:00pm: Five more cases are reported, all in Timmins, all because of contact with another case, all in self-isolation.  Total now jumps to 141 across the region.

The latest COVID-19 case in our region is at

Extendicare in Kapuskasing.  And because it’s a long term care home, it triggers the designation of an institutional outbreak.

The Porcupine Health Unit won’t specify whether the patient is an Extendicare resident or a staff member. It does say that staff is taking all necessary precautions to prevent further transmission of the virus.

That one case is number 136 in the region since the pandemic began almost ten months ago.

The last case confirmed to be in Kapuskasing was on Thanksgiving weekend, when someone at Kapuskasing District High School tested positive.
