Frozen pipe blamed for early morning water damage at District Hospital

A broken pipe at Timmins and District Hospital early today left several inches of water on the floor in some areas.  Deputy Fire Chief Ellard Beaven says the pipe appears to have frozen.

“That’s what it seems to be at this time, but it seemed to be multiple areas and it seems to be on the second floor that did considerable damage on the main floor, in the x-ray/imaging area and then down into the cafeteria.”

Beaven says cold air returns like any building has, caused the pipe to freeze.  It was -25Cs at the time, roughly 5:30am.

“There’s extensive work for them to deal with now, as far as the cafeteria and getting that back up and running again,” the deputy remarks.

The cafeteria is in the basement.  The water poured down from the site of the break, up on the second floor.
