Chambers say new govt. procurement policy favours GTA over the north

Chambers of commerce from Timmins, North Bay, the Soo and Thunder Bay are crying foul over a new procurement policy by the Ontario government.

Timmins chamber president Melanie Verreault says it favours the Greater Toronto Area too much, to the detriment of the north.

“We’ve already got a lot of Northern purchasing consortiums here that are very successful,” she remarks, “and this new announcement leaves us at this disadvantage to our geographical area as well.”

Verreault is hoping for more discussion with Queen’s Park before the new plan is finalized.
