Math Month aims to help students better understand basic concepts

Math skills are under the microscope at the Catholic School Board. April was “Math Challenge” month, which had kids answer questions for every day of the month. The goal was to give students a better opportunity to understand the concepts. The board started the initiative because they found many students were missing important and basic concepts. Those concepts build the foundation to solve more complex problems.

“As we review our student achievement data and student work, we recognize that there are some important concepts in mathematics that many of our students continue to struggle with,” says Daphne Brumwell, Superintendent of Education. “These concepts are foundational and are often needed to solve complex problems in mathematics.”

The board will now go over the results from the month. The class with the highest number of participants will win a special lunch during this week’s Catholic Education Week.
