Mushkegowuk pitching Ring of Fire railway

A plan to bring a railway to the Ring of Fire is in the works. The Mushkegowuk First Nations Grand Chief Lawrence Martin met with Noront Resources. They agreed it would be beneficial to support resources from the chromite project processed in Timmins. Council is supporting the idea, with Councillor Bamford calling it an excellent initiative.

“Once this is announced, the shares of the companies in question in the Ring of Fire, those shares will go up in value such that these companies will be able to start developing there immediately,” says Bamford.

He says it will be an instant boost to the economy. “This is a solution to a huge number of problems,” says Bamford. “And, great economic development for the people in Southern Ontario, as well as the North.”

The resolution to support the initiative was passed unanimously by Timmins council.
