Resolute Forest Rights to be released

The Sustainable Forest License in Iroquois Falls owned by Resolute will be released. The company owns 40% of the timber rights, which were being used at the shut down mill. Where the rights will go is still unclear.

The Abitibi River Forest Management will have some say, and could split it up between the other license holders. Iroquois Falls city council says they want the rights to stay within the community, as it will help with creating jobs.

In the case that the Abitibi River Forest Management wants to let a forestry company outside of their group have the rights, it would need government and First Nations approval. Among the companies within the group are Timmins Forest Products Limited, Tembec, and Wahgoshig Resources Inc.
