Curbside composting could be on its way to Timmins. City Councillors are expected to give the go-ahead to a study that will look at the cost of starting it up when they gather on Tuesday night. Cities that are about the same size as Timmins will have until 2023 to begin a curbside composting program to comply with a possible provincial ban of food and organic waste at landfill sites. It’s believed that a composting program will help to reduce Green-House-Gas emissions. In a recent audit, food and organic waste accounted for nearly 43 per cent of the waste coming to landfill sites.
