At the beginning of every regular city council meeting, a short prayer is read.
However, that may change. The Supreme Court of Canada ruled yesterday that municipalities are not allowed to read prayers.
The ruling came after a man in Quebec challenged the tradition.
As part of the ruling, the Supreme Court of Canada says the prayer creates a distinction, exclusion and preference based on religion.
There is no word yet on if Timmins council will make changes, and what those changes will be.
