Bell ringing heralds the opening of the Downtown Timmins Urban Market

Some of us might have thought it wouldn’t happen this year, but the Downtown Urban Farmers Market opened Thursday on Third Avenue.

Among those who didn’t think it would happen is vendor Allen Graham from Graham Acres.

“No, I did not think there’d be markets this year with the way things were going,” he tells My Timmins Now Dot Com.   “But we’re out here and it looks good, lots of people out.  They’ve got some new rules in place that keep social distancing, which is great.”

This week, Graham was selling mostly meat.

“We have eight acres of vegetables in, too, so we’ll have vegetables once they start getting ready, another three weeks or so,” says Graham.

Physical distancing is ensured at the market.  This week it featured ten vendors spread over two blocks of Third Avenue.  As vendor participation increases, it will expand to three blocks.

The market runs from 11:00am until 3:00pm every Thursday until October.
