To mask or not to mask: What people think

A week from tonight, Timmins council is expected to decide whether to make face masks mandatory in indoor public spaces.

At Saturday’s farmers market, we asked shoppers and vendors what they think of the idea.

“I think it would be good if you wore them going into stores and respected space for others.”

“I don’t have mine on right now of course, but no, if they make it mandatory, I will be happy with that. When I go into the grocery stores or into the big stores, I do wear it.”

“Maybe for inside stuff, but not really for outside.”

We only asked a handful of people, so this is not a scientific poll.  However, no one we talked to objects to mandatory mask wearing.

“Just make it consistent for everybody.”

“I’m selling the cloth masks because I think it’s kind of inevitable, jus to keep everybody safe.”

Í think it’s a good idea personally.  I think it limits the risk of the actual infections. I really do think it’s a good idea, especially for around town, as well as washing your hands.”

Council will discuss the matter and possibly pass a bylaw at its regular meeting next Tuesday night.
