One of two fugitives sought in Schumacher Tuesday wanted for murder in Thunder Bay

Apart from the trouble in which he finds himself in Timmins, the 19-year-old subject of yesterday’s manhunt in Schumacher is wanted for murder in Thunder Bay.

He was in Timmins with a 16-year-old boy, also from Toronto.

Timmins Police communications coordinator Marc Depatie says they were eventually arrested during a controlled traffic stop at 5:45pm.

“Both these persons were familiar to the drug subculture in the Timmins area,” Depatie says, “and were seen on a number of occasions at various locations that were under surveillance by the Timmins Police Service.”

Depatie says the 16-year-old was in the car when the older suspect was in an altercation with officers in the Senator Hotel parking garage. They fled, prompting the search when their car was found abandoned in Schumacher.

Officers located them based on information that they were elsewhere than Schumacher.

“They were seen entering a vehicle and that vehicle was subject to a controlled and maneuvered traffic stop by the Timmins Police Service,” according to Depatie. “They were arrested at the intersection of Brunette Road and Algonquin Boulevard.”
