The Timmins and District Hospital Foundation has a pretty impressive scorecard, following its first ever attempt at a virtual golf tournament.
Due to COVID-19, this year’s John P. Larche Golf Classic was played online.
Executive director Jason Laneville says it relied on donors from across Northeastern Ontario.
“To move the ball along the course, you would make a donation,” he recaps. “And so essentially, the community was walking the course together. We were all walking the course together.”
Laneville says there was a financial target in mind.
“Sixty-thousand and we overachieved. In fact, the money keeps coming in. So right now, we’re basically at $64,000 of the $60,000 goal. So we’re just ecstatic.”
The round of golf only took three-and-a-half weeks. The target was to complete it in five weeks.
The money goes towards the $500,000 cost of a new mammography unit.
