We need more time, says Iroquois Falls to Resolute

Iroquois Falls is asking Resolute for more time before the mill is demolished, something that Timmins is supporting.

Mayor Steve Black says they asked council to pass a resolution showing their support to give the city more time to find a new use for the building.

“At the end of the day, it’s going to have to need a lot of lobbying and the provincial government’s support as well, to convince Resolute,” says Black. “It’s their facility, and it’s going to be tough to change their mind.”

Black says we understand the value of it in Northern Ontario, and he is happy to support them as they try and make a change.

Iroquois Falls is asking for the timeline to be pushed back until July of 2016. As it stands now, it will be demolished this spring.

The issue will come back to Timmins council for a resolution.
