News Ontario surpasses 19,000 cases of COVID-19; recovery rate now at 71-percent SHARE ON: Wendy Gray, staff Thursday, May. 7th, 2020 Illustration of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus 2, the cause of COVID-19 (Alissa Eckert, MS, Dan Higgins, MAMS) Ontario has added 399 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. That brings the total number of cases to 19,121. Another 48 people have died with that number now at 1,477. There have been an additional 347 people recover from the virus with that total at 13,569 or 71-percent. The province did increase the number of tests done in the past day by 14,909. Over the course of the pandemic, 361,733 people have tested negative.
