French horn takes top billing at TSO concert

The French horn moves up from its traditional spot towards the back of the orchestra to be the featured instrument at this weekend’s Timmins Symphony concert.

It’s called “Golden Echoes: The Glorious Sound of the Horn”.

TSO director Josh Wood will be one of the featured performers, as a conductor from Northwestern Quebec takes the baton.

“It’s just a fantastic sounding instrument,” Wood enthuses.  “I mean if you listen to basically any major movie soundtrack, in the most exciting parts, the French horn is the one that gets the big melody line.  It’s just a really fun, exciting instrument and if you come, you will not be disappointed.”

He goes on to say that the music will sound great with the acoustics of the concert venue, St. Anthony’s Cathedral.

“It’s beautiful.  And for this type of music with this type of warm, resonant sound, I mean St. Anthony’s is going to be a perfect acoustic for that.”

“Golden Echoes: The Glorious Sound of the Horn” begins at 8:00pm  Saturday.  Tickets are available at the Timmins Museum and at the door of St. Anthony’s the night of the performance.
