Roller derby in Timmins is all-inclusive.
The Gold Miners’ Daughters team is recruiting new members.
Vice-president Sophie Nedeau – whose roller derby name is Knocktooth Abby – says you can show up any Monday night between 6:30 and 8:30 at the Timmins YMCA.
“We have skate rentals for everybody,” she says. And despite the team name, anyone is welcome.
“Absolutely,” Nedeau says enthusiastically. “As much as it says the Gold Miners’ Daughters, it’s just an older name. Anybody of any gender, any size, ethnicity, anything can be part of the team.”
Aside from the players, called “skaters” there are positions of all kinds to help the team and the sport grow.
