Budget talks going in the right direction, says Black

Mayor Steve Black calls this week’s budget meeting the most productive one to date.

Council has met six times, and in the latest one, cut the budget down by 1.5%.

Mayor Steve Black says if council did nothing, the average tax payer would have seen an increase of about 6% on their taxes.

He says council cut out over $1M in spending for this year.

Some of those cuts come from pulling $300K out of de-humidifiers for the pool because of an upcoming feasibility study, and $700K was cut to redo the parking lot at Hollinger Park.

That project will go on hold, and instead $200K dollars will go into a reserve fund for the park.

Council has at least one more budget meeting in the books.
