$350,000 injection for Timmins & District Hospital Foundation

The Timmins and District Hospital Foundation has received a substantial donation from the partners who run the Detour Lake mine, almost 200 km northeast of Cochrane.

Donor relations manager Barb McCormick says it’s $350,000: “$250,000 of that comes from Detour Gold and $100,000 from Franco Nevada.”

Among areas that money will be directed to is a learning centre for medical students at TADH and renovations to the ER.

“It brings their total lifetime giving to $1.8-million,” McCormick says of Detour.

She adds that all donations fund things not covered by the provincial government.

“They (the province) fund operational costs for the hospital, but not new equipment costs or renovations,” she states.  “So that becomes the responsibility of the foundation through the support of the community.”
