TIMMINS sign now outside museum

The McIntyre headframe now has competition for the most popular selfie background in Timmins.

There’s now a big “Timmins” sign – much like the ones in Cochrane, Ottawa and Toronto – right outside the museum on Second Avenue at Spruce Street.

BIA executive director Noella Rinaldo says the sign was paid for by a grant specifically for downtown revitalization.

“We really see this as a project that could expand into the rest of the city,” Rinaldo comments. “Love to see one in South Porcupine, in Mountjoy, love to see one by the headframe, behind the Mac that you could kind of have that sign where everybody goes to take their pictures with the headframe.”

Rinaldo says its LEDs are capable of hundreds of colour combinations.  Right now, it’s green and red.

“The nice thing about it being ready before Christmas,” she says, “is I’m hoping people that come home for the holidays will be able to come and take their picture.”

A similar sign will be erected outside Timmins Transit – the old train station – in the spring.
