The Mattagami Water Plant may be going through an audit. Councillor Joe Campbell pitched the idea at this Monday’s meeting, calling it a standard procedure. The project has been the subject of controversy from the beginning. It is less than $10M over budget, not $20M as it has been rumoured. Mayor Steve Black supports the audit, saying it is the biggest project Timmins has embarked on.
Black says the project never started at $60M like many are saying. The original cost was going to be $73.9M, and it is now up to $80M.
Black says the external audit will give accountability and transparency for residents.
