Online service aimed at Timmins seniors

Just gone live on the internet: a service hub called “seniorsintimmins.ca”.

It’s a project of the Cochrane District Social Planning Council and its Timmins age-friendly committee.

Trisha Turner is the council’s executive director.

“We have things like the Red Cross, like they have their Meals on Wheels and they offer a shoveling program,” she points out.  “We have doctors, we have lawyers, and then we’re looking at adding activity groups.”

Turner says not to underestimate how many seniors actually use the internet.

“There’s a lot more than we actually figure.  We partnered with NeoNet during the creation process, to offer courses for seniors on how to use technology, internet, all that sort of thing and it was a great response, actually.  There’s a lot that want to learn and a lot that are already using it.”

…And for those who aren’t, Turner says the site can be used by family looking for the information the senior needs.
