Zero tolerance around school buses: TPS

In a two-day period this week, Timmins Police heard from three school bus drivers who experienced vehicles driving past them, even though the stop arms were out and the red lights were flashing.

Communications coordinator Marc Depatie (dih-PAWTZ-ee) says because of that, patrol officers are cracking down.

“Those drivers found committing offences in relation to a failing stop at a school bus can expect a firm response from the officer who addresses that type of driver behaviour,” he states. “A zero tolerance is in effect for this type of violation.”

Depatie adds that it’s a simple matter of imagining that your child is either getting on or leaving that bus.

“I can’t imagine what situation would dictate that my individual schedule is more important than the safety of a child.  That’s just flawed logic, absolutely and completely.”

As part of zero tolerance, Depatie says hefty fines and a high number of demerit points are waiting for any driver who’s caught.
