The global observance of “Giving Tuesday” is coming up on December 3rd, and South Porcupine Food Bank treasurer Peter Davis says it will be participating.

“It kind of kicks off our $20,000 year-end campaign with proceeds towards our regular operating costs and that also includes a purchase of Christmas hams and turkeys for needy individuals and families in our communities,” Davis tells My Timmins Now Dot Com.

The food bank is holding a fill-a-van event from 10:00am until 4:00pm that day outside the Porcupine Mall, collecting non-perishable food.

“People can also come to see us inside the mall and make a donation and we will issue tax receipts for those,” Davis adds.

The South Porcupine Food Bank’s monthly operating costs average just over $6,000 dollars, feeding about 240 people.
