Venture Centre running first ever business competition

It’s music to a small or medium business owners’ ears… when they hear about grants – that means money they don’t have to pay back.

The Venture Centre in Timmins is holding its first ever business competition, called “Business Boost”.

Community development officer Trista Vermette says first prize is a $2,500 grant and a loan of $10,000 or more.  Second and third prizes are $1,000 and $500 respectively, with the same loan availability.

“It’s got four documents that need to be filled out and then we start going through the evaluation process,” Vermette explains.  “So the deadline for all the applications is actually December 13th, Friday the 13th.”

There’s help filling out the forms, and the winners will be announced on January 31st.

“The eligibility criteria is for start-up and expansions to small and medium-sized enterpriss,” says Vermette. “They have to be within our catchment area and that comprises of Timmins, Gogama. Foleyet, Biscotasing, Mattagami First Nation and Shining Tree, and anything in between.”
